Overview & Highlights of Manaslu Circuit Trek
The Manaslu Circuit Trek starts in the warm, subtropical region of Gorkha district Nepal and follows the vibrant Budi Gandaki River through lush green valleys. This classic itinerary focuses strictly on the main circuit without the Tsum Valley detour, making it a perfect choice for adventurers seeking a complete mountain loop.
What to Expect on the Manaslu Circuit Trek
In the lower villages like Jagat and Deng, you will encounter welcoming Gurung and Magar communities living in traditional stone houses alongside terraced farmland. Here, local culture blends ancient shamanic customs with gentle Buddhist practices.
As the trail climbs to Namrung (2,630m), the air cools, and oak and rhododendron forests take over. Above 3,000 meters, Tibetan Buddhist traditions dominate. High-altitude villages such as Samagaun and Samdo showcase vibrant monasteries, prayer flags, mani walls, and yak pastures. Samagaun serves as an essential acclimatization hub, offering scenic day hikes to nearby glaciers, moraines, and dramatic views of Mount Manaslu.
The Thrilling Larke Pass (5,106m)
The true crowning moment for himalayan travellers on this journey is crossing the formidable Larke Pass (5,106m). This high-altitude crossing delivers breathtaking, panoramic views as you transition from dry, rugged terrain into lush, green alpine valleys.
Descending through alpine meadows, you will reach lower settlements like Tilije, where Hindu and Buddhist traditions harmoniously mix before your return drive to Kathmandu.
